Submitted by sushialista on Mon, 2006-12-04 20:50.“The demand to speak up and say it like you see it isn’t mythical: our own uberbabe community is already frothing with ideas of what (or who) works, and doesn’t, for them. These awards just formalize that shared stream of consciousness, and bring it to a larger uberbabe mainstream.”

Submitted by sushialista on Tue, 2006-11-14 03:23.Someone recently drew my attention to a scienctific undertaking, designed to eliminate the unneccessary consumption of real animals, and to decrease the world's food shortage, without having to give up a meat eaters diet! Too good to be true? You tell me.
Sometime in 2005, the powers that be at NASA began to publicly explore the potential of cultured meat, meat than can be grown in a petri dish. In the meantime, the idea has sprouted to include a consumer product ... grow your very own meat at »

Battle over 'net neutrality' arrives in Canada Last Updated: Thursday, November 2, 2006 | 5:13 PM ET
The Canadian Press
The fight in the United States by major telecom companies to control web content has arrived in Canada with little fanfare — and could dramatically change the nature of the internet.
It's being waged over something called net neutrality, dubbed the First Amendment of the internet in the United States. Net neutrality aims to ensure the public can view the smallest blogs just as easily as the largest corporate websites.
Matriarchal-socialist government for Sweden by 2030
Submitted by Big Boy on Wed, 2006-11-08 11:33.the ultra-love is celebrating mightily today! in the US, the democrats have retaken the house. and in sweden, plans for a return to matriarchal government are afoot. even better, the matriarchial transition is itself only temporary, as the swedes continue their progressive march towards a full embrace of non-gendered power structures! oh, that sentence was a mouthful. put another way, the swedes are rockin' out to the notion that one day, government will be based not on matriarchy, or patriarchy, but on pure merit, and true equality. go, swedes. and please, send me another shipment of that special edition vodka - you know the one.

Queer Film Festival a not-so-new target for bigots
Submitted by Henri on Thu, 2006-09-14 19:57.Below is a call for help from Out On Screen, the Vancouver based Film and Video Society that runs the Annuan Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Ridiculous as it may sound for Canada, people's beliefs and their life style are still openly targetted in the name of "...established social mores...". Please take a minute to read below and respond accordingly.
Dear Members:
We need your help!
LifeSite, a web portal and close affiliate of Campaign Life Coalition, has targeted the Vancouver Queer Film Festival and potentially put festival funding in jeopardy. The article, headlined "Why is the Conservative Government Wasting Taxpayer Dollars on "Queer" Film Festival?" is posted on LifeSite.net [ http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/aug/06083101.html ]

from the 360: überbabe to Pay Those Who Play
Submitted by ladyuberbabe on Mon, 2006-09-11 18:09.susan kuchinskas, longtime media maven, wrote a nice piece about our überbabe open content model, on her weblog, the 360. an excerpt is below:
Überbabe not only lets fans play with the media, it will pay some of them to do it.
Überbabe is a mythos that contains 100 characters including überbabe herself, the “mother of all Supergirls.” There’s a timeline of events that starts in prehistory and stretches into the future. It plays out in a variety of media, including comics and graphic novels, music, merchandise, real-world get-togethers and now within an online community launched last week at www.uberbabe.com. The überbabe media properties are owned by sugarlab.
