unknown forces eat memory and uberbabes

uberbabes, in the annals of uberbabe, may 2007 to september 2007 of unite.uberbabe.com no longer exists. it has vanished. it has jetteth'd. it has gone. all postings and profile changes made during this time have gone to the otherworld, in circumstances somewhat perplexing to us. suffice it to say that we are investigating what unknown forces have inappropriately consumed such a large chunk of our data, and our uberbabes. sweet mother of mothers, sharp justice will prevail. yours, lisa voldeng, the lady uberbabe

how can we create.....

last week a local newspaper asked me to answer the following question, as part of a series of articles they're running on inclusiveness. the question, and my response, is below. please insert your country of choice, the song remains the same.

HOW CAN WE CREATE A MORE INCLUSIVE CANADA AND BECOME BETTER CITIZENS?

The most direct response I can give to this question is for us, individually
and culturally, to encourage and honor each other's unique expressions of
being, while also embracing the commonalities amongst us: to love and be
loved, to see and be seen, to hear and be heard, to have the freedom to be
ourselves in the world, whomever we love, whatever our gender, whatever our
race or spiritual creed. We live in a tolerant society - it is not enough.
We will become truly inclusive when we open ourselves to becoming an
accepting society, no longer afraid of the "otherness" of those who appear
different to us - instead embracing our differences, as well as embracing
the things that unite us.

from the 360: überbabe to Pay Those Who Play

susan kuchinskas, longtime media maven, wrote a nice piece about our überbabe open content model, on her weblog, the 360. an excerpt is below:

Überbabe not only lets fans play with the media, it will pay some of them to do it.

Überbabe is a mythos that contains 100 characters including überbabe herself, the “mother of all Supergirls.” There’s a timeline of events that starts in prehistory and stretches into the future. It plays out in a variety of media, including comics and graphic novels, music, merchandise, real-world get-togethers and now within an online community launched last week at www.uberbabe.com. The überbabe media properties are owned by sugarlab.

MySpace clamps down on users through new tech limits

from boing boing:

MySpace clamps down on users through new tech limits

Siva Vaidhyanathan says, "MySpace is slowly installing technological restrictions that will undermine its value as a social networking site. Well bowled, Rupert! My brilliant doctoral student Alice Marwick, who studies social networking and identity online, wrote this..."
So: stuff like Slide.com, RockYou.com, and YouTube’s Flash video wrappers will no longer be able to link back to the sites if the user is using Flash 9. Generally adoption for Flash isn’t that quick — but since all users with Flash 8 currently have broken MySpace video/audio players, you can expect that to have somewhat of an effect on the adoption rate (i.e.: skyrocket).

MySpace can say all they want about wanting to protect users, but really this is about them protecting their advertising dollars. The barnacle-like secondary market sites will have to find increasingly creative techniques to launch Flash-based content within the site if they want it to spread virally.
